Natural Dishwasher Powder

Natural Dishwasher Powder

Commercial dishwasher tablets are often a cocktail of synthetic fragrances and harsh surfactants. This 1kg recipe is one of my daily essentials: it’s cost-effective, non-toxic, and works brilliantly without the chemical residue.

The Ingredients:

  • 500g Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate)

  • 500g Oxygen Bleach (Sodium Percarbonate)

Where to Buy: I source my bulk ingredients from Pure Nature here in NZ. They are my go-to for high-quality, raw ingredients for a low-tox home.

The Method:

  1. Mix: Simply combine the two ingredients in a large bowl and stir well.

  2. Optional Step: If you prefer a very fine powder that dissolves even faster, you can pulse the mixture in a blender for a few seconds.

  3. Store: Keep in an airtight jar in a dry place.

  4. Use: Add 1–2 tablespoons to your dishwasher’s powder compartment per load.

The "Sparkle" Secret (Rinse Aid): For streak-free glasses, skip the blue liquid rinse aids. Instead, mix 1 tbsp Citric Acid with 1/4 cup hot water until dissolved, and pour it directly into your dishwasher’s rinse aid compartment.
